Mangochi, September 16: Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) on Friday updated members from Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAM) who are attending the professional body’s annual conference in Mangochi about the new Agents Management Module introduced in Msonkho Online.
Making a presentation to the ICAM indaba in the district, MRA’s Manager for Marketing Communication, Wilma Chalulu said the Agents Management Module has various benefits that include giving a facility to transact on behalf of clients electronically and that taxpayers could manage the roles to be performed by an agent or associate.
“This provides an option for taxpayer’s representatives, return preparers, tax consultants, accountants or tax practitioners to do tax transactions on behalf of one or more taxpayers,” she said.
On Tevet levy, Chalulu highlighted that come October 1, 2023, payment of the levy would be done electronically.
African Tax Administrators Forum (Ataf) Director of Tax Programmes, Mary Baine, who heads the African continental revenue collection member bodies grouping, recently said African countries, including Malawi, cannot achieve meaningful development if they fail to maximize domestic tax revenue aided by digital platforms.
Msonkho Online is being implemented to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in tax compliance and taxpayer service management by improving and automating business processes in MRA.
It is a web based integrated tax administration system where Malawi taxpayers access a range of tax services electronically and the platform is convenient, secure and accessible at any time.
