Colonel Gilbert Mitawa has been elected unopposed to lead the Super League of Malawi (SULOM) at the Extraordinarily General meeting held on Saturday in Lilongwe.
“we are moving forward, the picture is very clear, the direction is very clear, the foundation is very solid so from today onwards we are just continuing with the initiatives that we have been undertaking along with various interventions to ensure we continue to revive, reform and rebrand” Mitawa told the media after being unveiled as new President.
The Presidency seat at SULOM became vacant in December when the then President Fleetwood Haiya arose to the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) on a similar position.
Following Haiya’s departure, his Vice Col. Gilbert Mitawa took over his position on acting basis and was supposed to be ratified as the new President early this month during SULOM AGM but a move was denied by some affiliates.
There was also a contest for the position of SULOM Executive member which became vacant following Daudi Mtanthiko’s departure to FAM.
On this, William Nhlane has been declared winner after defeating the duo of Charles Manyungwa and Isaac Mdindo.
Nhlane was short of words after being declared the winner: “Iam excited and thankful to those who voted for me and Iam ready to work at SULOM”
On his part, FAM first Vice President Madalitso Kuyera who observed the elections has asked the those elected to help the transformation of the game.
