The Malawi Schools Sports Association (MASSA) has announced the introduction of girls football and chess game to the already existing four sports disciplines.
The revelation has been made by MASSA General Secretary Crispin Nyasulu when announcing the resumption of the third season of Malawi Youth Games, starting from today up to this coming Sunday and will be hosted at Civo Stadium and Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
Over the past two season, MASSA has been running football, netball, Olympics and Paralympic games.
But speaking on Thursday Nyasulu believes the introduction of the girls football will help to nurture talent for the future Malawi National team.
“We saw how the national team has been struggling in transition of players so we decided to introduce girls football to help in producing more players” said Nyasulu
According to Nyasulu, North East Education Division team was the first to arrive on Sunday and all other divisions have arrived today in Lilongwe.
On her part Central East Education Division captain Tamanda Madukani expressed excitement with the inclusion of girls football.
“As players we are extremely excited because we didn’t expect that they would consider us since we have been overlooked in the past but now it’s our advantage to play competitively from this level and I believe this competition will help us to improve” said Madukani
More than 2000 Schools participated at Secondary level that includes public and private schools and at Primary School level, above 5000 schools participated before selecting regional representatives.
