Former Mighty Mukuru Wanderers captain Alfred Manyozo Junior has hailed the impact the Mpira Mmudziu Mwathu initiative is making towards the growth of football in the country.
Manyozo made the remarks after appearing as a guest coach at Mpira Mudzi Mwathu’s Lilongwe Soccer School on Saturday morning.
Manyozo whose son also trains with the soccer school said the Mpira Mmudzi Mwathu initiative has demonstrated that with passion and dedication the country has potential to nurture raw talent into national materials.
“I had a chat with Linda Kasenda(Schools Manager) as well as Chimango Kaira (Projects Officer) and having appreciated their vision behind the MM project I was convinced these guys are up to something big hence my appearance on Saturday top inspire the kids”, said Manyozo.
According to Manyozo Mpira Mmudzi Mwathu is providing a platform to kids to learn basic skills of football which lacks in many footballers who are just rushed to play in the elite league without having basic knowledge of the game.
“You know this is where basics of the game are taught and if you miss then it becomes difficult for you to grow as a footballer. Initiatives like MMM are very important for the growth of the game in the county.
He has since urged MMM management to intensify talent identification exercises across the country.
In his remarks MMM Chief Executive Officer Patrick Chimimba said as an organisation they were excited to have Manyozo as a guest at one of their soccer schools.
“A good inspiration for our children. You could actually see the excitement and glow from the children when he was introduced”, said Chimimba.
He has since promised that they will continue to bring current and former footballers to inspire kids at their soccer schools.
Currently Mpira Mmudzi Mwatha has under 14 and 16 teams which are competing in the FAM Nthanda Under 14 League and the National Youth Football Association Under 16 League respectively.
Mpira Mmudzi Mwathu is a Non-Governmental Organisation that promotes football for growth.
The Organisation currently has soccer schools in Lilongwe and Blantyre.
