The Ministry of Education has announced plans to engage 4,200 auxiliary teachers on a temporary basis for the 2025/2026 academic year.
According to a press release, the teachers will be selected from graduates of the Initial Primary Teacher Education (IPTE) program. They are scheduled to report to their assigned primary schools across 32 education districts on November 10, 2025.
The initiative, part of the Malawi Education Reform Programme (MERP), aims to reduce the pupil-to-qualified-teacher ratio in the country’s schools. The selected teachers will receive a monthly honorarium of MK150,000.
The Ministry has clarified that the engagement is strictly temporary for one year and does not guarantee permanent employment upon its conclusion. Eligible teachers who fail to report by November 17 will have their offers automatically withdrawn.
According to the communication, a list of schools designated for the auxiliary teachers has been dispatched to all district education offices.
