Police officers in Machinga have undergone a training session on crime prevention and case management, aimed at reducing crimes in the district.
The training, organized by the Malawi Police Service’s Community Policing Department, was held on May 7, 2025, at the LEA School Teachers Development Center (TDC) Hall under Traditional Authority Nkula.
The guest of honor, Machinga Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jane Mandala, expressed gratitude for the training, which she said would enhance officers’ knowledge and skills.
She also inquired about potential partnerships with donors like UNICEF to support further training for officers.
Superintendent Gift Likoswe, National Second Deputy-in-Charge for Victim Support Unit (VSU), led the training session. He emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in addressing sexual offenses and ensuring justice. Likoswe also taught officers about case management, prevention, and analysis of rampant cases in their policing areas.
Assistant Superintendent Malango Mwasinga also took the podium, educating officers on crime prevention, particularly in relation to political violence, disaster management, and assisting survivors.
The training, financially supported by UNICEF, drew officers from all posts and units within Machinga Police Station.
Sergeant Western Kansire, Machinga Police Station Public Relations Officer, confirmed the development, highlighting the district’s commitment to reducing crime through capacity building for its officers.
