“The Lilongwe City Mayors Trophy is indeed being held on Friday 8th December 2023 at Bingu National Stadium” said Chafunya

Chafunya added that the competition is very important for sports development in the country.

“One of the goals for Lilongwe City Mayors Trophy is to see talent is identified and nurtured at a tender age and we hope this is the way to develop players for national team”

The four finalists made their way to finals in this year’s competition which had 54 participating teams.

According to Chafunya, games will begin at 12 noon and finalized at 5 pm and Champions will walk away with jerseys and other prizes.

The Lilongwe City Council has also announced that the games will be free of charge hence calling upon those that wishes to go in large numbers and witness the talent from the youths under the Lilongwe City Mayors Trophy.

In 2020, FDH Bank became officials sponsors of the competition at a tune of K15 million after signing a three-year deal contract but the competition was halted and postponed a year later due to COVID-19 before it’s return in 2022.
