LAB20 Innovations has donated K2 million towards this year’s Joggers On the Move (JOM) Marathon slated for 3 August 2024.

For five consecutive years, JOM has organized annual marathons as a fundraising mechanism to provide health items to vulnerable groups.

Therefore, this year’s event is being held in order to raise funds to buy solar equipment that will be used to light up a remote clinic in Dowa called Matekenya Health Centre which is about 20 kilometers east of Dowa and serves a large community of 23,000 people.

Speaking after the presentation ceremony of the cheque, LAB20 Innovations Sales and Marketing Manager, Brian Banda, said the donation is part of their corporate social responsibility.

“Just as they had elaborated that the money is going towards lighting up Matekenya Health Centre in Dowa which accommodates 23,000 people we thought it wise to support the initiative”

“We decided to give this money because we are also giving back to the community as a part of us saying thank you, and at the same time, what we really liked about it is that they did not only think of their own fitness, but also others” said Banda.

To his part, Publicity Secretary for JOM Marathon Organizing Committee, Joab Frank Chakhaza thanked LAB20 Innovations for the donation.

“We are particularly delighted to receive this significant contribution from LAB20 Innovations, it will go a long way in helping JOM deliver it’s promise to bring solar powered electricity at Matekenya Healthy Centre” he said

Chakhaza has also urged other players to emulate the good example set by LAB20 Innovations.

Furthermore, he announced the shifting of the marathon event from Dowa to Lilongwe, the development has seen it’s cost being reduced from initial budget of MK 13, 652, 435.97 to MK 8, 745, 900.00.

According to the organaizers, the 2024 Marathon will end at Gateway Mall at 09:00 where they will have an awards ceremony as well as pavilions for sponsors of the initiative.

The run will feature 42.4, 21.1, 10 and 5 – Kilometer routes, along with cycling and aerobics.
