The Mangochi-Monkeybay Constituency legislator Ralph Jooma has asked Government to quicken the completion of Monkeybay Community Ground.
Jooma questioned the minister of Local Government Richard Chimwendo Banda in Parliament last Friday.
He said the project has stalled for a long time, thereby denying youths of Monkeybay right to use the facility.
“I stood in the chamber asking the Minister of Local Government as to when he intends to complete construction of monkey Bay community ground”
“This community ground was being constructed under the bigger project of Rural Growth center, and all the other projects completed, and they are being used, but the community ground is not completed”
“So I wanted to find out when the Youth of Monkeybay can start enjoying this project and they are looking forward to it very eagerly” Said Jooma.
In response, Minister of Local Government, Richard Chimwendo Banda admitted that the project stalled due to lack of funds.
Meanwhile, Chimwendo Banda advised Jooma to discuss with the district council officials the possibility of using part of GSED funds to complete the project.
“We have had issues of funds coming to District councils, and there have been challenges because of resources being unavailable, but we have good news that we are doubling GSED funds within one year, government will be receiving closer to 40 million US dollars, and this will be disbursed in all district councils.
“So I would advise you to go back to the district council, lobby them if part of it can be used for the completion of the project”
