The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has appointed Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (MACRA) director general Daud Suleman as a distinguished member of the Digital Innovation Board within the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance for Digital Development.
According to a statement signed by BDT director Dr Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava and released on February 5, 2024, Suleman has been appointed together with 17 other members.
The others are Enkelejda Muçaj, Albania’s Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Mohamed bin Thamir, Bahrain’s Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications; Carlos Baigorri, the President of Brazil’s National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel); and Eng. Hossam El-Gamal, the Executive President of Egypt’s National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA).
The team also comprises of Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, Laurence Ndong, Gabon’s Minister of Communication and Media; Mondli Gungubele, South Africa’s Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies; Jabiri Kuwe Bakari, the Director-General of Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority; and Gift Kallisto Machengete and others.
“The Digital Innovation Board was established to provide strategic guidance, expertise and advocacy regarding its mission of building critical local enablers and fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in digital development, to create a more inclusive and equitable digital future for all.
XAs the Alliance aims to accelerate innovation capacity and creating linkages at the national, regional and global level, the Board will advance the efforts of the Alliance at the global stage, leading the dialogue on fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in digital development with relevant stakeholders and prospective partners, including UN agencies, governments and private sector.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies (ICTs), driving innovation in ICTs together with 193 Member States and a membership of over 900 companies, universities, and international and regional organizations.
