President. Lazarus Chakera has advised investor to focus on investing in creativity and innovations for the country to achieving sustainable development goals.

Chakwera made the remarks today, during the commemoration of World Creativity and Innovation Day held at BICC in Lilongwe under the theme “step out, create and innovative for the Malawi we want”.

Chakwera further ensured the nation that his leadership is committed in supporting innovations in the country.

On her part, Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Colleen Zamba, said creativity and innovations are critical elements for Malawi to achieve 2063 goals.

” Innovations improve lives of people in our communities, it is also an important part of human development so for Malawi to fulfill 2063 goals this is an element which is critical,” said Zamba

During the event, the United Nations Development Program – UNDP awarded Ministries of Tourism and Mining for emerging as top performers in as far as creativity and innovations is concerned.

UNDP’s Portfolio Analyst on Governance, Christina Maseko believes the $40’000 grants that have been awarded to the two ministries’ will be used as innovative solutions for their respective challenges.

“The Public Sector Innovation Challenge is part of UNDP support to the Government of Malawi to adopt innovative Public Sector Reforms that rectify inefficiencies. This is the second year that we have put this call for proposals and in 2023 the call was put to all ministries in line with the seven sectors”

“The selection process was quite comprehensive, an independent panel reviewed the proposals from 12 ministries, but we are glad today to award the ministries of Mining and Tourism, particularly because of complementing to government’s ATM strategy, but also these awards will contribute to the realization of UNDP’s Country Program document and of course the sustainable Development goals” she said
