The Ministry of Lands has ordered the United Democratic Front (UDF) Member of Parliament for Machinga East Esther Jolobala to vacate from Government house number 11/30/A7 in Area 11, Lilongwe.

On 6th August 2024, Ministry of Lands wrote Jolobala a letter, accusing her of unlawful stay in the house which was leased to the late Honorable Patricia Shanil Dzimbiri.

The letter which was signed by the Secretary for Lands Martin Chimangeni, further ordered Jolobala to vacate the premises within seven days of receiving the notice.

Additionally, the letter requested Jolobala to settle water and electricity bills with relevant institutions before vacating the house.

“This is not in order as there are procedures that need to be followed before one is allocated a government house” it read.

On acknowledging the notice, Jolobala requested the Ministry to allow her vacate the place by 30th October 2024, citing she had belongings to hand over to the family of late the Dzimbiri, a commitment which was accepted.

Meanwhile, the Ministry is back with another letter dated 3 December 2024, which has given Jolobala fresh seven days to vacate, after her failure to do so in October.

But in an interview Jolobala says she will leave the premises in January as late Dzimbiri’s children paid another rentals in November which will run up to January 2025.
