The Women’s Football family is in jovial mood after securing a K60 million sponsorship package from the Goshen Trust for one year.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony on Friday in Lilongwe, Goshen Trust founder Prophet Shepard Bushiri said the gesture is an expression of their commitment to promoting women’s football in the country.
“We all love our country and it’s a dream for every Malawian to see that our country becomes an international flag in terms of football so looking at the problems they had at hand when I was approached I thought we need to take permanent solution unlike just temporary solution and the permanent solution should be partnership so we have entered into partnership with FAM more especially with the women football team as well as the league which is there at the moment so that’s what motivated us” he said
According to Bushiri, the K60 million will be divided into three categories.
He said K29 million will be channeled to cutter expenses for logistics when the Scorchers travel to South Africa next Monday for 2023 Hollywood bets Cosafa Women’s Championship while K21 million will be allocated to the Goshen Women’s Football League.
Meanwhile, Bushiri announced at the event that he has added K10 million for the allowances of the Scorchers, bringing the total amount to K60 million.
In his remarks, FAM President Walter Nyamilandu hailed Goshen Trust for the sponsorship which he believes has boosted Scorchers participation for upcoming COSAFA Women’s Championship.
“We are extremely excited it’s good news to us, something we’ve never had in football, it’s a big boost to our chances of participating in COSAFA we didn’t have resources to go there so we now have money to buy air tickets to go and participate in COSAFA tournament, the team is guaranteed it’s participation”
“Some of the money’s will be channeled to support Goshen Trust National Women Football League, K18 million for the running of the competition and K3 million to buy equipment for teams because most of teams are struggling to buy on their own so it’s a complete package” said Nyamilandu
Malawi Women’s Football Association President Adelaide Migogo expressed gratitude for the sponsorship.
She further appealed for more support to Women’s Football from companies and individuals.
