Facebook con-man gets 3 years jail term

The Principal Resident Magistrate (PRM) Rhodrick Michongwe has sentenced a Facebook conman Precious Kasakatiza (22) to three years Imprisonment with Hard Labour (IHL).

According to Deputy National Police Spokesperson, Superintendent Chimthere Alfred, the Court heard through State Prosecutor Fortune Kananji that Kasakatiza was operating various Facebook accounts and in the process duping innocent people of their hard earned money.

“In passing the sentence, slapped him with 18 months IHL for personation contrary to section 34 of the Penal Code, and another 18 months for prohibition of offensive communication, contrary to section 87 of the Electronic Transactions and Cyber Security Act,” he said

Kasakatiza,  who stays in Area 36 Lilongwe, has for the past months been running numerous fake Facebook accounts namely; Queen Sagrada, Anzeru Akummawa, Princess Regina, Affordable steel roofing, Mr Praizs Muzik, Ndine Promoter, Chacha, Avon with Christabel, Infinity Modelling Agency, Prestar and Bartell joy Mataya.

“Apparently, using those fake Facebook accounts he had swindled money from several people including men, who thought they were dealing with a lady. He used for example, pictures of innocent women without their consent, to entice his male victims.

“However, through the Digital Forensics and Cyber Crime officers, Police instituted an investigation and cornered him,” said Chimthere

Kasakatiza hails from Mackenzie village, Traditional Authority Nsamala in Balaka district.
