A grouping calling themselves ‘Concerned Football Enthusiasts’ have asked incumbent Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president not to stand again in next elections slated for December.

Leader of the grouping, George Mussa said this during media briefing today in Lilongwe.

Mussa, a former Malawi National Team player, said Nyamilandu has failed to improve football in the country in the past 19 years he has served as president of the Association hence needs to pave the way for others.

“to me it’s enough, if he thinks it’s not enough he should feed other people to lead FAM and you don’t stick to your position forever” said Mussa

“We don’t have good foundation for football in this country, do we have all levels of national team participating regularly at regional or continental competitions? Do we have meaningful youth leagues in the country that exports players abroad?, any initiatives from FAM to send our coaches abroad to upgrade their skills? The answer is no, so whats their duty as country’s football governing body?” Said Mussa

Mussa has also asked Nyamilandu to stop bragging about Malawi National Women’s Football team success during the just ended COSAFA Women’s Championship which the Scorchers won saying credit should go to late David Dube.

“I appreciate David Dube who did alot for Women football development in the country all by himself he was spending for his food for players, he could accommodate them, he could pay fees for them, he could request help from FAM but not even K1 would come from FAM, not at all, not even Nyamilandu” he added

Meanwhile Mussa, has blamed the Malawi Council of Sports for it’s negligence to allow Associations change constitutions that favours those in power.

“The first problem in football is statues which Sports Council needs to revise, do you think the FAM statutes from the time Nyamilandu was nominated and elected is still open? Were not having some closes? What type of constitution do we have that is open ended?” He wondered

When asked if he was sent by someone to denounce Nyamilandu, Mussa said he is not aware of anyone who will Challenge Nyamilandu but his wish is just to see a change of leadership.

Walter Nyamilandu is yet to respond to the calls by the Concerned Football Enthusiasts but this comes barely few days after Nyamilandu told a certain radio station that he is still waiting for guidance from affiliates whether to seek for re-election or not.
