The main opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has apologized for receiving K145 million from Pioneer Investment Limited when it was in power.

This follows a legal battle commenced by Youth and Society (YAS) against DPP and two other individuals.

The money was believed top be a cut from a contract which Pioneer Investment Limited, a Malawi Police Service supplier, got from government.

The court action which YAS commenced has been before the Supreme Court of Appeal for about five years.

The case was a result of a leaked Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) document showing that the company made am abortive claim of K466 million in the Police Food rations deal, and deposited K145 million into the DPP bank account.

The sole signatory of the account is DPP president Peter Mutharika, who was Malawi President at the time.
