The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) has said it will commence the food distribution exercise to Malawians who are at a risk of facing hunger.
This comes after the Malawi Vulnerability Report revealed there will be massive hunger in the country.
The latest June 2023-March 2023 Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) Acute Food Insecurity Analysis pitied 4.4 million people as facing high acute food insecurity in the country.
A week prior to the release of the analyses, another report –Global Information on Early Warning Systems— by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) indicated that Malawi is among countries that will experience extreme heat weather conditions from November 2024 to March 2024
In an interview with The Atlas Malawi, DoDMA Head of Public Relations, Chipiliro Khamula said the department will target all those facing acute food shortage in all the 28 districts in the country.
Khamula added that the department has collaborated with other stakeholders in resource mobilization for the exercise which will last up to March next year.
