High Court Judge Redson Kapindu sitting in Lilongwe has set this Friday as the day he will rule whether the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) should release documents to lawyers for Vice President Saulos Chilima in the ongoing corruption trial.
On Tuesday morning, the Attorney General (AG) Thabo Chakaka-Nyirenda appeared before the court on behalf of MDF to make the representations against the release of the documents. .
The court met in camera.
In an interview later, AG chambers’ deputy director of civil Neverson Chisiza said MDF is against the release of the documents because they contain information bordering on national security.
Among others, the defence lawyers want council minutes which, allegedly, authorised MDF to enter into contract with Zunneth Sattar’s firms to supply military equipment.
Chilima is accused of allegedly demanding and receiving an unspecified amount of money from Sattar to influence the award of contracts to Sattar.
