Airtel Malawi, through Zili Mwa Ife campaign, has awarded six people who have been recognised for the impact they have had in their respective communities in the country.
Zili Mwa Ife is a campaign that was launched in September 2022 with a sole purpose of rewarding society heroes who are impacting lives of many in the societies they live in.
On Friday, the telecommunications company splashed a total of around K15.5 million.
Some of the individuals who have been awarded from the Zili Mwa Ife Campaign purse are Kondwani Ngwira who is an entrepreneur on a mission to change the lives of communities in Malawi by training them to start their own businesses. Ngwira got K3 million. John Emmanuel from Tuluma in Machinga got K3 million for improving his community with food security and water by mobilizing communities to support him with building an integrated fish farming establishment that expanded over 69 acres of land and Protasio Jedidia who spends most of his time looking after street children in Blantyre by providing counselling, mentoring, feeding and sharing the word of God has been awarded with K3 million.
Speaking at the award ceremony in Lilongwe, Airtel Malawi Marketing Director Thokozani Kamkondo Sande said they are excited that the dream of having a campaign that is rewarding people who are doing great things to bring an impact in their respective communities is working.
“We are proud that the stories that have been rewarded so far have been recognised by other organisations and they are as well trying to boost them in order to make sure that they are impacting even more lives”, said Sande.
In reaction after being awarded with K4 million for creating a water pump that is pumping water from deep valleys in Nkhata-bay and serving his community with portable water and electricity, Chimwemwe Mwenefumbo said he was happy and thankful for those who nominated him for his work.
Mwenefumbo urged youths to be the solutions for the problems their respective societies are facing. He said he has managed to do a little for his society but would like to do more in order to serve more people.
“I am happy that Airtel Malawi introduced this initiative and it is something that will help alot of people to push for the better for their respective communities. Currently this award will help me to increase thd capacity that we have at the moment and help more people”, he said.
To be rewarded one has to be nominated for the impact one is bringing to a specific community.
This was a second phase of awards after several others were rewarded back in September when the campaign was launched.
