Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested former Procurement Officer at Parliament of Malawi, Alinafe Banda, and Grace Kusani, owner of Divine Excellence, over suspected procurement fraud.
According to a press statement issued on July 10, signed by ACB Senior Public Relations Officer, Jacqueline Ngongonda, Malisawa instructed officers to process payments before goods were delivered while Kusani submitted forged quotations to win contracts.
“The arrests followed an investigation by the Bureau which uncovered evidence of misconduct during procurement processes by Maliwasa while working at Parliament of Malawi around 2020,” reads the statement.
The statement states that investigations also established that Kusani forged and submitted quotations from companies such as Allu-Tech Aluminium Systems and Carports Kings International to mislead Parliament into awarding contracts to her company.
The two will appear in court soon to face charges including abuse of office, neglect of duty and uttering false documents.
