Super League of Malawi President Fleetwood Haiya has been elected Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President at the Elective General Meeting held on Saturday in Mzuzu.

Haiya accumulated 23 votes against 13 of Walter Nyamilandu Manda who had been in power for the past 19 years.

Immediate after being elected, Haiya announced his resignation as Super League of Malawi (Sulom) President.

“With immediate effect I’ve resigned as Sulom President” said Haiya

Asked if he is ready to seek advice to the ex executive committee he said “Walter Nyamilandu has vast experience 19 years in office, he was FIFA member, he is currently council member of CAF therefore I will indeed seek advice from him so that at the end of the day we don’t advance our personal agendas but agendas for football”
