Couple arrested over theft in Lilongwe

Nsungwi Police Unit in Kanengo, Lilongwe, has arrested a couple in connection to theft of cellphones in various areas in the city.

According to Kanengo Police Station Public Relation Officer (PRO), Sub Inspector Gresham Ngwira, The two, residents of Area 25’s sector 9, are Sofileti Masina, 37, of Katchale Village, Traditional Authority Chadza and her husband, Noah Emmanuel, 29, of Mutu Village, Traditional Authority Mtema both in Lilongwe.

“Recently, law enforcers at the unit received a tip from well wishers about the suspicious character of the duo. Working on the tip, Police arrested the two, both business operators, and recovered six smartphones of Techno Pop 2, Samsung and Itel models they are suspected to have stollen.

“During preliminary interviews, Masina and Emmanuel have admitted to have been stealing the gadgets from different places within and outside the city. Meanwhile, investigations continue to trace the owners of the recovered handsets and recover more,” he said

Ngwira said the the two will appear in court soon to answer theft charges.

“Police sincerely thank well wishers for the tip and ask for a continued partnership in keeping Kanengo safe and secure,” said Ngwira
